Weak Side : A Fake Dating Hockey Romance (Bexley U) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 15,261 ratings

He’s the hottest hockey player in the nation, and I just agreed to be his fake girlfriend.

Theo Brooks is hard not to notice. With his coy smirk, rock-hard abs, and skilled agility on the ice, he’s the cockiest of all the jocks and, unfortunately for me, my new roommate.

When Admissions mixes up my first and last name and I end up living in the male dorms, I feel my perfectly tied schedule loosening with every string Theo pulls. And he likes to pull
every single one.

It isn’t until I find out that my long-time boyfriend is sampling other girls that things get interesting. Theo proposes a solution to my problem—he helps me make my ex jealous, and I help him fend off the relentless puck bunnies that are doing nothing but distracting him from sealing his future with the best NHL team there is.

So, we fake date. We kill two birds with one stone.
The puck bunnies think he’s taken.
My ex is regretting his poor choices.

But the more Theo Brooks shows up by my side and places his hand around my waist, the more I realize that the lines we drew are blurring.

This may have started out as a fake-dating scheme, but with each misleading kiss, we may both get more than we bargained for.

Weak Side is a spicy fake dating/forced proximity college sports romance. It is a complete stand-alone.

Stars: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️ POV: Dual Standalone Book 1 of the Bexkey U Series Tropes: ✨College Romance ✨Sports Romance ✨Enemies to Lovers ✨Forced Proximity ✨Fake Dating Claire Bryant is 3rd year dancer/ballerina major at Bexley U and on the first day of move in there was huge mixup. Due to her name being flip “Bryant Claire” Claire got assigned a dorm room on the athletic boys floor. With no other room available she had no choice to move in. Claire hates jocks as her mother told her for years they are no good stay clear from them. Theo Brooks aka Wolf is top hockey player at Bexley U. All he want to do is focus on his last year of college/season. He wants the puck bunnies to stay away from him🤣 When he found out Claire was his new roommate he was livid but he could do nothing as there no other way for her to leave. Over time in close proximity Claire and Theo started to get along. Claire recently found out her boyfriend of 4 years has been cheating on her and they broke up. Theo was tired of the puck bunnies so he suggested to Claire that they should start fake dating so the puck bunnies would leave him alone and make her ex jealous. Sheesh the first time they make Claire’s ex jealous🥵 and made her 💦 for the first time. Her ex expected she would get back with him since her mother works for ex family. She talked with her mother first before Claire had her last and final talk with her ex👏🏽 (he wanted to have his fun in college then marry her🙄) I love how all Theo’s friends are very protective when it comes to Claire🥰 great supportive friendships! “Our Girl” Claire never knew who her father was and he shows up towards the end!! Wonderful book ending! HEA❤️ Theo “You are my weak side, Bryant. Do you hear me?” “It means you’re mine.” 😍

    Genre: Hockey Romance
    Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
    Heat: 🌶️
    POV: Dual
    Burn: Slow

Tropes: Hockey Romance, College Romance, Slow Burn, Fake Dating, Forced Proximity/Roommates

Claire Bryant, our FMC, is a ballet dancer juggling a whirlwind of responsibilities—classes, rehearsals, waitressing, and navigating a complicated relationship. Just when her plate couldn’t seem fuller, a mix-up in the athletic department’s paperwork lands her in the male dorms. To make matters more chaotic, her new roommate is none other than campus hockey star Theo Brooks.

Theo Brooks, our MMC, is the charming and popular hockey player with one clear goal for his senior year: stay focused on getting to the NHL and avoid distractions, especially puck bunnies. But his plans take a detour when he discovers that Claire’s boyfriend is cheating on her. Theo can’t let that slide, and suddenly, it’s game on.

The banter and chemistry between Theo and Claire were spot-on! While some reviews criticize the fact that the fake dating trope doesn’t kick in until about halfway through the book or that both characters are initially involved with other people, I personally enjoyed these aspects. It felt like a refreshing departure from the typical storyline. Theo was everything I look for in a book boyfriend—protective, caring, and swoon-worthy.

I finished this book in a day; it was such a quick, fun, and easy read. I can’t wait to dive into the next book in the series! My only wish? A little more spice 🤭.

If you’re looking for a lighthearted hockey romance with humor, chemistry, and a happy ending, I highly recommend this one!

This is such a dreamy book, Claire and Theo are great characters. Their love story has a very natural feeling progression, and Theo is absolutely a catch! I love the way he falls for her and how supportive his team is of her.

The way Theo is captivated by her art and the way he takes care of her is so sweet and endearing. The fun they have together and the way they appreciate each other as people, their drives and goals, how supportive they are of each other's lives, and how much Theo does to get her to see what a catch she is and why she should value herself and not settle for anyone who doesn't value her, even at the end when he thinks he's losing her.

Now for the things that made this a 4 instead of a 5.

    1. At the beginning of the book, on every other page Theo complains about puck bunnies, wanting them to leave him alone. On the in-between pages, we hear about how he is getting sucked off or having sex with them in his room every day and before every game. This makes ZERO sense, like of course they aren't going to leave you alone - you keep giving them what they want.

    2. Renters aren't responsible for fixing damaged floors that they didn't damage. If a pipe bursts or something like that, causing water damage, that is the landlord's responsibility. I would have e overlooked this detail if it weren't a big plot point that came up several times.

    !!!!!!!!SPOILERS!!!!!!!

    3. Everything about Claire's mom.

Claire periodically says things like she and her mom are partners. Her mom is selfless, how great her mom is - but there are no memories or evidence of this. It would be ok if her mom wasn't a character in the book, but she plays a big role indirectly.

She briefly asked Claire how she was doing ONCE. Everything else in that conversation and every other conversation we saw between them was about her problem and her demanding Claire send money.

One other thing that could be considered as her trying to do something for Claire is trying to get the Dean to sleep with her to reduce Claire's tuition. Considering the repercussions of that with either decision he could make that's pretty stupid and since every interaction we have is her asking Claire for money or getting deeper in debt with Chad's parents, I think this wasn't doing something for Claire, it was all about making it so Claire would have more $$ to send to her mom.

She told Claire her whole life that Claire's father left them because sports were more important. Why didn't Claire ever ask wtf they weren't getting child support? She spent all of Claire's life angry at jocks, bad-mouthing jocks, etc. Then we meet Tom, who had a professional hockey career but was in a car accident and was going to be a "cripple"...she left him the next day in the hospital because she didn't think she could take care of a kid and a "cripple". Part of me scoffs because yeah, right, this *itch just thinks her cash cow is gone (I think she was puck bunny!). If she was in love with him, then she still sucks. Either way, why change your name and not ask for child support? That whole thing just doesn't make sense.

Then at the end, we're supposed to think that she's not a bad person, she's a nice mom, and that the "jocks suck", and "your father abandoned us" were just a harmless front and can be easily forgiven by Claire who has so many trust issues and insecurities as a result of these cruel lies...nah man....everything EVERYTHING about Claire's mom brings this book down...after typing it all up I'm tempted to lower it to a 3, but Theo, Claire, and their friends are so great I just can't.

    4. The last scene with Chad was very disappointing, she's being nice to him, but it almost seems more like she's letting him down gently when she's saying "You don't love me", "you don't do XYZ to someone you love" etc etc...while all of that is true and can be said in righteous anger...the way it is written that emotion just doesn't come across. Also, why would she decide that saying that to Chad is more important than Theo getting the wrong idea? She could tell Chad to eff off while going after Theo, or heck, if she felt like she had to talk to Chad, then she could come back after straightening things out with Theo. I'm honestly not sure why she decided to deal with Chad first since her mom was already out from under the thumb of his family.

    5. The epilogue. First, it does not make it clear at what point in time of Theo's career we are...the timing seems to indicate that he would be out of college and on the NHL team, the jersey she's wearing indicates it too, but something is said about him not being on the team yet. He is out on that team's ice, there are announcers and a national anthem, jumbo tron being used in the same manner as on a game, not a tryout, so I'm just not sure.

She says she's got the best seats, no the 2nd best seats, having chosen not to get the best because she didn't want to take any more of Tom's money after he paid her tuition. It mentions how he is in the owner's box. Like....surely Tom would have pointed out that getting seats from him or joining him in the owner's box wouldn't cost him money. Either way, best or 2nd best if she's paying for them, how? I'd assume that actually, Theo would be getting her seats. It's the small things.

I hope the critique doesn't make you skip this book because you absolutely must read it, this is a wonderful story, the characters are great, it's got some good spice to it, and the love is divine! My critique is more for the author, nothing is perfect and there are always things that can be improved so don't think that just because I have some negative feedback the story isn't worth your time fellow reader.

This book was so good! There were so many good tropes in this book: fake dating, forced proximity, enemies to lovers, found family and more. I really enjoyed the plot, and hockey player x ballet dancer is such a good combination. The tension and the banter was perfect, and I absolutely loved how the entire hockey team was protective of Claire. It was so sweet! Also, Claire and Theo's chemistry was undeniably HOT, and the spice was delicious. I loved reading Theo's POV both during the spicy scene but also the sweet scenes. He's is literally the perfect book boyfriend. He was so sweet and caring but also hot haha. The only complaint I have was that the ending felt a bit abrupt, but it was smoothed over in the epilogue. I would totally recommend this book to anyone who loves hockey books! I can't wait to read the next book in the series!

This is unlike the usual hockey romances I read. This misplaced roommate situation was written perfectly--kind of a new spin on a meet cute. The fake dating was obviously never really fake, but I adored it! The majority of the story was souly based on the couple Theo and Claire. Although there was little interaction with side characters, it actually made the story move at a good pace. There wasn't unnecessary filler, so I was able to read the book in the matter of a few days.

I tried to overlook it the first time but after that it was no longer tolerable. The book was pretty good other than that. I am sure he could have found somewhere else to hook up. Neither of the main characters were likeable enough to give me a reason to try harder. He was pretty much a DB most of the time. She was such a doormat when it came to her mother and her boyfriend. I wanted to scream. And why does her mother have to pay for repairs in the apartment? Where's the landlord's responsibility? Her mother is a leach. Her boyfriend is a cheating azz. The writing is decent. I was getting into it. The plot was intriguing. I think it would have been a great read but I can't do obvious OW. The puck bunnies were a source of amusement but actual hook ups weren't necessary to the plot. I think I more than made my point. Three stars and I recommend this as a decent sports, E2L, forced proximity, fake dating, sports romance if you are OK with OW. ✌🏻

Claire is on her way back to university and when her name is reversed and she is mistaken for a man, she ends up in the boys dorm.

Not only that but she is rooming with Theo, a popular hockey player. Due to that mix up and no other available room, they decide to make the most of the situation.

They quickly get on each other nerves and fire works are flying between these two. The other issue that Claire has is her boyfriend Chad. They have been together for over 4 years but he is no longer the boyfriend she recognizes. He is distant, cold but still finds the time to question her about any man she speaks too.

When some truths are revealed, it leaves Claire reeling and trying to figure out what she can do. She has a lot of pressures coming at her with her dancing career, school, work, her mom etc so when Theo comes up with a plan for them to fake date, she agrees.

I loved seeing the change in Theo. At first he seems like a playboy that is only out for himself but as he gets to know Claire, he realizes that there is something there.

I won’t lie, these two characters are put through the wringer. When one thing is resolved, something else pops up. I couldn’t stop reading until I got all the answers and their HEA is well deserved.

While this is considered a slow burn, the steamy/tension filled scenes between these two was so good😮‍💨 (the shower scene.. iykyk)

This was such a great Introduction to this world and I can’t wait to continue.

Enticing, enthralling, energetic and awe inspiringly hot.

The alphaness excudes off Theo but in a way that makes you burn and want him more.

Claire is not your typical girl in this story, there is so much more to her and she is an athlete in her own right...

I thoroughly enjoyed the side characters, all the banter, friendships and well the chemistry both platonic and romantic.

Plus I felt everything and I do mean everything while reading this book.

What more could you ask for when it comes to a fake dating sports romance. I for one got what I'd usually request with heaps more on the plate I didn't know I wanted or needed.

My only suggestion is read this book when you know you have the time to devour it and you can have ALL your needs met...
