A USA TODAY Best Selling author and two-time READERS' FAVORITE GOLD MEDAL winner, S. R. Mallery--as her fans say--"brings history to life."

They say I'm as eclectic as my characters. I've been a singer, a composer, a calligrapher, a quilt artist, and an ESL/Reading teacher. But it is the world of writing historical fiction and time travel that I feel I've truly come "home." Why? Because then I get to do my second love: Research.

WHAT READERS ARE SAYING ABOUT S. R. MALLERY'S BOOKS:

Unexpected Gifts: “This is a book to be savored, as there is much information, as well as a captivating story about one family greatly affected by the events of their times. A thought-provoking read indeed!” -- Deborah Lloyd for Readers' Favorite

Sewing Can Be Dangerous and Other Small Threads

This is a fascinating collection of anecdotes and historical snippets focusing on the timely art of sewing. - Emily-Jane Hills Orford for READER's FAVORITE

"Mallery is an extremely talented writer. Her style lures the reader; you actually become a part of her tapestry of expression." –– Blogger Melinda Hines, on Tales to Count On.

The Dolan Girls "was so enjoyable. At times rollicking, at times poignant, but always authentic, well researched and a beautifully told story. Highest recommendation. Five stars." –– B. Nelson, Top Amazon reviewer

Genteel Secrets “is a beautiful story which transports the reader in time. True to life historical fiction at its best, it's so much more than romance.” – Riley, Top Amazon reviewer

Trouble in Glamour Town “is very historically accurate, portraying the real workings of the Hollywood sleaze, dishonesty and corruption happening at that time. S.R. Mallery is a gifted author who drew me into the story from the first word and kept me reading until the very last page... " - Trudi LoPreto for Readers' Favorite

Ellie & The War On Powder Creek

"This is one of those rare western romances that are historically accurate. From the way the characters talk to their dress and their way of life, the author has given a very accurate account of how the west was back in the late 1800s. The narrative was reflective of that time; the descriptions took me to the places and the characters and had me experiencing the hardships and tension along with them ...

The author's writing style is the magic behind this amazing novel. S.R. Mallery did a great job at keeping the story alive, keeping the momentum going and making sure that the reader didn't lose interest at any point. I loved this book"

----- Rabia Tanveer for Readers' Favorite *****

Tea, Anyone?

***** "Tea, Anyone? is one of those books that you just fall into and stay there until it's finished. The plot is clever, unique, and is told in a believable way. All the characters are wonderful, well-developed, and a really eclectic mix too. An intriguing story, this is guaranteed to hold your attention late into the night." -----Anne-Marie Reynolds for Readers' Favorite

This is an easy reading, clean cozy mystery which I am sure you will enjoy
Abby is not at all certain that the death of a young man was due to an epileptic seizure he had while starring in a lead role in a play. None of the other actors really liked him-the director was weird to say the least and his poor mother was distraught. Abby went to her trusty tarot cards and entered her uncles car--she was transported to Rome where she was a servant in a wealthy household. Nobody knew why she kept going back and forth there--but eventually she figured out why. With the additional help of her compadres--they were able to solve this mysterious death and the culprit was caught!! This is an easy reading, clean cozy mystery which I am sure you will enjoy whether you read the first in the series or not (I did).

“When in Rome” by S.R. Mallery is the second book in her ‘Brooke & Abby Cozy Mystery’ series, yet reads well as a stand alone even though you have not read the first in the series. It follows the pseudo-official police investigation of the murder of a young man during a theatrical production. It is not a run-of-the-mill who-done-it, however. Brooke is a researcher for the Hillside Police Department and works with two of their Homicide detectives, Larry and Tony, and the remaining two members of her crime-solving ‘gang-of-five’ are made up by a homeless man she rescued, and her rather odd neighbor, Abby. Oh, and not forgetting the feline member of the group, Junie, who’s role seems to be one of motivation and consoling. The homeless man, Henry, excels at historical investigation, whilst Abby has a unique approach: using Tarot cards, she boards her grandfather’s old Packard inside her garage, and time travels back to a period that might offer clues to resolving the present-day case!

Intrigued? I was, and thoroughly enjoyed the unravelling of the murder mystery. The time travel element might seem way out to left field, yet Abby’s trips to ancient Rome provide much useful information for the gang to identify the method used, and ultimately lead to the killer.

Author Mallery does her usual outstanding job with the characters, making each a real, three-dimensional person to the reader, who quickly finds they all, Junie included, claim their place as a reader’s favorite. The tale is also both funny and fast-paced with plenty of interesting backstory (especially due to my faux-pas of starting the series with book two) that will entertain. (I immediately read book 1, “Tea Anyone”, after finishing this one.) Very highly recommended.

When In Rome (A Brooke & Abby Cozy Mystery Book 2) is a new release by Multi-Award Winning, USA Today Bestselling Author S.R. Mallery.

Having read the first in the series, Tea, Anyone? (A Brooke & Abby Cozy Mystery Book 1), I was excited about reading the latest story from this author. It’s not necessary to read the first in the series to understand what’s going on, but I found it helpful to already know something about each character featured in the first book.

This is the second book in a series that features two female investigators. Brooke Anderson has a job as researcher for the local police department, and often consults with her roommate, Henry, while her neighbor Abby is a psychic who relies on intuition. Their friendship seems unlikely since Brooke is a skeptic, even when she hears that Abby has worked with other police departments, helping solve crimes.

As the story begins, Brooke and Abby are in the audience watching a play, when Alex Russo, an actor who suffers from epilepsy, drops dead during a performance, supposedly because he wasn’t taking his medication as directed. Even though the death is ruled an accident, before too long, it appears that he was murdered. There are a slew of people who disliked Alex, and many of them have secrets.

While Tony, Brooke and the other detectives interview his girlfriend, mother, the actors and director, this is where history steps in, as Abby is transported in time with her tarot cards to Ancient Rome, where another murder has been committed, which will provide clues to help solve Alex Russo’s case.

Will they be able to discover who killed Alex Russo and find out why he’d been murdered?

And then there’s that memorable kiss that Brooke shared in Book 1 with hunky detective Tony. Is there a romance coming soon between these two?

You’ll just have to read the story to find out!!

This is a fun to read story full of quirky, well-developed characters with LOTS of dry humor for some laugh aloud moments. It also features an intriguing whodunit, which makes it hard to put down once you begin reading. Add in the author’s interest in history and the engaging way it’s threaded into the story, and you have a unique cozy mystery which I highly recommend!!

I have worked in the past with this author in a few boxsets and became a fan after reading her stories. This review is my honest opinion.

S.R. Mallery has always been one of my favorite historical fiction authors but now she’s quickly becoming my favorite cozy mystery writer as well. Brooke and Abby are back and I couldn’t be more excited! As with book one in the series, there’s a murder to investigate, but this one isn’t so clear-cut. An actor dies, supposedly from forgetting to take his medication, but soon the team realizes that he had far too many enemies among his fellow crew members and that his past wasn’t all that squeaky clean. But who would want him dead and why?

Once again, Ms. Mallery employs a time travel device that quickly transformed a cozy mystery into something even more fascinating. Through her characters’ eyes (one character - sorry, no spoilers!) we get to explore an Ancient Roman court full of intrigues and conspiracies. There will be a crime committed here too, but will it offer any clues or something else will? You’ll need to read it to find out.

Utterly compelling and full of unforgettable characters you’ll grow to know and love (or hate), “When in Rome” is an excellent continuation of the series. I already can’t wait for book 3!

A thoroughly enjoyable story with a unusual paranormal twist. I loved the characters Brooke and Abby, the police analyst and the psychic time traveller. Great ideas, plenty of suspects all with secrets, The story is very well written and I was hooked right away. A clean, old style whodunit with a great twist.
