Whispered Voices: A killer’s voice, a fairy’s protection; A Paranormal Cozy Mystery (Storm Voices Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 156 ratings

A flash of lightning is the warning of an approaching storm... But for Mackenzie Aldkin, the lightning can also signal something far more sinister.
Set along the picturesque coastline of South Florida, Whispered Voices, the first installment of the Storm Voices series, follows Mackenzie "Mac" Aldkin as she survives a near-fatal encounter with a lightning strike. Left with a feathered scar encircling her ankle and haunted by unfamiliar voices in her head, Mac seeks answers from her wise and enigmatic nurse, Moira. As Moira shares tales of fairies and their mysterious powers, she gifts Mac with Shaylee, a mystical kitten who may help her understand her newfound abilities.
But Mac's life takes a dark turn when a killer's voice invades her thoughts, and her boyfriend, Peter, is accused of murder. Determined to prove Peter's innocence and prevent another deadly act, Mac, Moira, and Peter form an unlikely alliance to unmask the true culprit. As they navigate the sun-soaked streets and shadowy corners of South Florida, the trio set a risky trap to catch the killer. Mac soon finds herself questioning who she can trust and whether she'll become the next victim in a deadly game.
Whispered Voices is a captivating cozy paranormal mystery set in the lush, tropical landscape of South Florida, where the boundaries between the supernatural and the ordinary blur, and where the whispers of the storm may be the only thing standing between Mac and the darkness that threatens to consume her world.

Awesome read! Hated to have to put it down. BBF’s forever helps to solve a murder of one of BBF’s “date”. Starts off with a lightning strike and a scar. This is a definite must read. A+++

First off, I loved this book. I am keeping it and probably purchasing the other two as well. My only problem with this book was the sheer volume of errors. It needs an editor desperately. I volunteer and as soon as I can find the author's email, I will be sending the list. Let me say that it is rare for me to purchase a book; I live on the freebies from Bookbub. However, I received the first 3 chapters free and was hooked. It is a fairly clean read. There were a couple of possible swear words, depending on how you take them. I do, however, recommend this book to teens and adults. No cliffhanger or sex.

I'm always surprised when a fun book with a good plot has so many proofreading problems in it. In the first half of this book, Mackenzie's name is spelled two different ways, numerous times. Words are used wrongly - waves "brake", she "grounds" her teeth, relay is used twice for "rely", the plural of fairy is written "fairy's" - causal is not "casual" - and please use more commas to set off direct discourse! For instance, not "I don't know Peter" but "I don't know, Peter", in numerous other instances as well.
It was a good book, otherwise well written - but please, Ms. Williams, bring the grammer and spelling up to the par of the plot!

Ms Williams has written a great story. After a lightning strike had hit Mackenzie she was left with the ability to hear voices. That leads to a case that involves her long time friend (and secretly someone she has come to love). She uses her abilities to solve the murder case. At the end of the story, signs come that Mac is recognizing, of another voice she will hear. I’m looking forward to the next tale…

Mackenzie Aldkin is a victim of a lightning strike. For a reminder of her narrow escape, she now has an unusual scar wrapped around her ankle.
According to Moira, her physical therapist. She has been set aside for something special, and has been kissed by a Fairy.
Now every time a storm is near her ankle lets her know. She also now has the unique ability to be able to hear the thoughts of a killer in their midst. And if she's not careful. She will be one of the victims herself.

For the first time in a long time, I knew who the killer was. Almost felt like climbing into the story and smack them to wake up and check out the clues. What a good story.

I really enjoyed this story of a young woman, MacKenzie, who begins hearing strange voices after she is struck by lightning. MacKenzie and her longtime friend and secret crush, Peter, begin a search for a killer whose threatening voice can only be heard by MacKenzie. The author continues to build the suspense, both in the hunt for the killer, as well as in the chance of romance between the two lifelong friends. I was captivated from the first page. If you like mysteries with a little bit of mysticism thrown in, you won't want to miss this one.

This was a bit different. Mac wakes up after being struck by lightning with a strange scar and the ability to hear voices. When her friend and unrequited love Peters latest girlfriend is murdered and she heard the cooperative in her head, she is forced to investigate. A murder mystery with a fae undertone. A well written story with a few minor proofreading issues. The characters are good and there is the usual cute pet. I will be reading more of these. Good one.
