Whispers of You (The Lost & Found Series Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 17,458 ratings

One night—a single moment—cost me everything.

My body, broken beyond repair. The boy I’d thought was my forever. The life I’d always dreamt of.

Now, Holt’s back. And he’s no longer a boy, but a man with shadows in his eyes and demons haunting him.

He says he’s here to make things right. To get back a little bit of all we’ve lost. And he doesn’t show any signs of leaving the small town that has been my refuge.

As stolen moments turn to days, Holt’s around every corner. With his burning stare and lingering touches. Before long, my walls come crashing down and I’m just hoping that taking this second chance isn’t as reckless as it feels.

But not everyone is happy that Holt has returned. As tragedy strikes again, I’m the one left in the crosshairs. And Holt might not be able to save me this time…

This childhood friends to lovers romance had all those swoony second chance feels!

This childhood friends to lovers romance had all those swoony second chance feels!
“I would never love someone the way I’d loved Wren—the way I still loved her. Because it didn’t matter if it had been ten days or ten years. A love like that ruined you for all others.” Shatter my heart in the prologue why don’t you! This childhood friends to lovers romance had all those swoony second chance feels and was the perfect start to this suspenseful small town romance series! Holt and Wren were high school sweethearts torn apart by an unthinkable tragedy that sent both their lives into a tailspin. While Holt ran from the hurt, Wren was left behind to pick up the pieces and learn to move on with her pain and heartache. This story gives that ACHE of second chances romances that we all love and yearn for. There was a lot of reconciliation that needed to happen before their romance could be anything more than a rocky friendship and I loved the moments of them letting each other in again, and building back that trust and love. “Holt was my anchor. The only way I could stay in the here and now. He held me, and he didn’t let go.” When strange coincidences and accidents start to happen to those who survived the tragedy all those years ago, I started to become suspicious of everyone in town! This of course put Holt’s protective nature on high alert and he didn’t want to let Wren out of his sight. I love a protective hero and you could feel the love from Holt as soon as he laid eyes on Wren again and he wasn’t missing his second chance. Wren had a lot more trust issues to overcome, so she was definitely more hesitant to let him back in but she never truly let go of her love for him. This story kept me on my toes and the twist is one I didn’t see coming! Great start to the series, all these siblings already own my heart!

I loved reading about Wren and Holt when they were young and seeing their relationship. The beginning of this book had me kind of thinking, “how are these two ever going to overcome what happened?” I should’ve known better, because Catherine Cowles is the queen of showing us why couples belong together and why their second chances are so deserved. I think I appreciated the depth of the characters the most. Wren is such a wonderful character, and I think her disposition is the reason that her and Holt could find themselves together again. She seems to just be a genuinely kind person.

Something Catherine Cowles is very good at is taking a situation that I’m not sure the characters can overcome, and having them overcome it. She is amazing at humanizing the mistakes that people make and writing couples that just seem meant to be. Something else that she’s good at is still surprising me here and there. As someone who’s read a ton of romantic suspense, and watched a lot of thrillers and horror movies, I usually can pick up on the twists in a plot. Although I can usually see some parts of her stories coming, there’s always at least one part that I am thoroughly surprised at.

Another thing I love about Catherine Cowles books is that the family dynamics are always amazing. And while there’s real blood related families, there’s also found families in her books that really intrigue me and warm my heart. I love Wren’s relationships with the Hartleys despite Holt’s absence. And don’t even get me started on the Hartleys. I cannot wait for the rest of the books in this series! Nash is next and I know he’s gonna be great, but of course the two books I want are going be the last two. Yes, I am claiming Roan and Law right now, so back off! Haha. If you read this book and you wanna talk about these siblings I am 100% here for it.

I read this ebook and listened to the audiobook. These two narrators do a great job at bringing all the voices to life, which made the story so enjoyable to listen to!

I will always say yes to a childhood best friends to lovers to strangers second chance romance and this one was SO good. It’s easy to read, and the balance between romance and suspense is perfect as we can expect from Catherine Cowles. I read this in one day because I couldn’t put it down!

Read this if you’re in the mood for…
    - second chance
    - childhood best friends to lovers to strangers
    - found family
    - protect her at all costs
    - dual pov

The way the past is revealed through that first chapter then in small moments in the book is perfectly done. I’m not a huge fan of dual timeline books so this was perfect! Their relationship is so sweet and seeing them immediately click after all that time didn’t feel rushed. I loved it all. Sometimes in a second chance romance the time they spent a part is a shadow in their relationship and while that’s true here too, I appreciate how they came to understand it as necessary for her to learn how to be her own person and find her way to be an equal partner with him now.

Here are a few of my favorite things…
    - his family teasing him about how even when they were toddlers how he’d never leave her side. SO SWEET
    - I love the concept of home isn’t a place, it’s a person
    - she never learned how to cook haha love that he takes over that role and they can joke about it
    - the epilogue is ADORABLE. A Little Women first edition and ribbon? The best.

It’s a perfect intro to the series and introduction to the other characters they will get their own books. I can’t wait to read them all

    I would highly recommend!

5+ Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐🌟 WHISPERS OF YOU is a 2nd chance romance like no other. Wren’s life may not be what she dreamed of 10 years ago, but she has found contentment and a degree of peace—until Holt returns. Holt’s return home not only triggers a whirlwind of emotions but also unveils a sinister plan that has been a long time coming. This is an incredibly intriguing and emotional tale. The characters are vividly drawn, and the storyline is thoroughly captivating with all its twists and turns. The underlying drama will keep you completely enthralled as you try to discover who the culprit is, and the tension and heartrending emotions will involve you so deeply in the MCs' lives that I guarantee you will not be able to put this book down!

Catherine Cowles became one of my favorite authors when I read her first book. She masterfully paints a story that keeps you enraptured. I sit on the edge of my seat turning pages and absolutely loving her stories. Reading her books is like watching the most brilliant sunset or sunrise. There is the introduction to golden hour, the build up, the brilliant kaleidoscope of colors dancing across the sky, the suspense of it all and the breathtaking ending. There is always a happy ending. There is also build up and suspense along the way. That is a Catherine Cowles story…it encompasses the best elements only an exceptional writer could achieve.

Whispers of You consumed me in the best way possible. Wren and Holt’s story was everything! It is a second chance small town romance with suspense galore and heat that singes the pages and warms your heart. Every character is wonderful, even the ones you hate. The villains are a surprise. You hate them in the end, but they are masterfully developed, written and believable. All the rest of the characters are just true love matches to the reader.

Author Cowles creates small towns that sound picturesque and have interesting, lovable people living in them. She creates places that I want to live in and be friends with the characters. Her books snuggle around you like a warm, cozy blanket.

Wren and Holt lead this story with love, loss and loyalty. Their path isn’t easy, but it is worth it. Holt is an alpha protective hero that takes everything on his shoulders. When you have his loyalty it is unwavering. Wren is sassy, strong and a fighter for what she loves and believes in.

If you want a story to immerse yourself in and fall in love with, this is your book!

This was a beautiful story but it was also very emotional and heartbreaking in a lot of ways.

I was completely hooked right from the first page and read this book in under a day, I couldn’t put it down. I really loved the main characters as well as the other characters in this story. I loved that there was a mystery as well as the romance and that the main characters had to overcome their past to be together.

I can normally guess a mystery plot from a mile away but this one kept me guessing with the twists and turns.

This was such an amazing book and I’m so glad that it’s part of a series 🥰

Catherine’s writing gets stronger with each book. This one had me hooked from the beginning, what a prologue!!
I love how she interweaves the mystery plot with the romance, truly refreshing and gripping.
Holt & Wren’s story was tender if bittersweet. Was tearing up from page 1 til the end.
Their love is one for the ages and I cannot wish for glimpses of their future throughout the rest of the series.

    But what about this book?
It's just wow. I don't know why I waited so long to dive into it. When I started it, I couldn't stop.

As with all her Catherine Cowles books, she makes me feel tones of emotion whether it's fear, joy, doubt...

Her gift for mixing romance and suspense makes me dive into his books every time.
It's been a year since I discovered her and I've been devouring her novels one after the other for a year.

To be honest, I must say Roan (the brother of Holt, our hero), he reminded me of Griffin (a hero from one of her other series, my favorite at the moment).

I loved how the relationship between Holt and Wren evolved. They are both characters who have been through difficult times and who continue to fight for themselves and for those they love.

Although the suspense was very well written, I had several ideas about the person responsible. And I'm happy to say I was right.

Even though she is a secondary character, I really like Grae. I can't wait to read his story which arrives on the first of August!
