Written in Ice: A Reformed Playboy Hockey Romance (Orchid City Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 1,011 ratings

Neither of them were looking for love, but it found them anyway…

Charlotte Wells needs a drastic change in her life.

Her editor is looking for something new, something fresh. Something romantic.

And Charlotte–well, Charlotte hates love.

She can’t say no to the deal from the publisher, so she heads to Orchid City for a change of scenery.

What she doesn’t intend on, is finding inspiration in the hot hockey player she stumbles into.

Weston Cole doesn’t do relationships, he doesn’t do commitments.

But when he meets Charlotte, she ignites something inside of him.

Probably just lust, because Wes doesn’t do anything more than a quick fling.

Either way, he’s looking for a good time and he has a proposition for her.

He wants to be her source of inspiration, if she agrees to being his temporary distraction.

It’s the perfect situation and something they can both agree on.

No attachments and definitely no feelings.

The only problem?

They’re only lying to themselves.

Tropes 🏒Small Town 🏒Hockey Romance 🏒Reformed Player x Romance Author 🏒He helps her with “research” 🏒 No 3rd act breakup 🏒He falls first This was such a quick easy read with some great banter and spicy scenes. That parking lot scene, my gosh, (fans face) still lives rent free in my head! 🥵 I love the undeniable chemistry between Weston and Charlotte. The “research” Wes agrees to help her with is the perfect catalyst for the friends with benefits to quickly being more. I loved how Wes refused to call her anything but Charlotte and how hard/fast he fell. The way he was so supportive of her goals and dreams, never making it seem like his were more important, but willing to compromise to make their relationship work long term. I also liked how their timeline was also during Nico & Harper’s so there was already an understanding of what was going on there (if you’ve read Meet Me in the Penalty Box).

This one was adorable with the quirky grandmas adding extra comedy to it. I definitely recommend reading this if you like quick reads that give you a whole story line, and hockey romances with no third act breakup!

This was so adorable, the meet cute was just perfect, neither paying attention and BAM! they smack I to each other.
I just loved how Wes was supportive and encouraging when it came to Charlotte writing and helping her with research, that was epic and so hot.

I really liked that they were slow to admit their love. After it was all said and done they have a HEA 🥰

Loved it so much. Charlotte and Wes gave me all the feels through their story. I enjoyed how easy and fast read this was....and it put a smile on my face.

This was a quick read. It was lighthearted and low angst. It would be a perfect beach read, especially since it takes place in a small, Floridian beach town.

Charlotte and Wes meet through their grandmothers. Charlotte is visiting Orchid City to find inspiration for her new romance book and Wes is on the Orchid City hockey team. Neither is looking for a relationship but they can’t deny their chemistry and agree to a no-strings, friends with benefits arrangement.

Wes was described as a reformed playboy, but he never really came across as the typical playboy. He had his reasons for not having or wanting a serious relationship and when those changed he was all in with Charlotte. I loved that he was the one who fell first and had to figure out what he wanted and how to get Charlotte on board.

Charlotte had been hurt by a past relationship and had sworn off any type of relationship involving feelings. She didn’t know she’d fallen for Wes until it was too late. She kept trying to tell herself her relationship with Wes was just research for her book, but she developed some pretty deep feelings for Wes.

I liked this story. I thought it was a fun idea and was executed well. It took place in the same timeframe as the first book in this series so it was fun to see Wes’ point of view concerning Nico and Harper’s relationship. There was a decent amount of hockey, and I loved the bromance between Nico and Wes.

Low angst, no 3rd act breakup. Just a nice easy read. I liked that Wes fell first, and the depth of his feeling. This was a palate cleanser for me, between darker romances.

    Story:7/10
    Spice:3/5
    Spice Hierarchy: spicy

Charlotte has been selected by her editor and publishing company to switch gears from writing thrillers with a touch of romance to writing contemporary romance. With the advance and contract she’s offered she knows she’d be crazy to pass it up. But she needs inspiration. Enter Wes Cole. The hockey player who has always been content with one night. They decide to be friends. With benefits.

Cali writes these men that are an absolute dream. The biggest cinnamon rolls for their woman. They fall first and it always knocks them on their backs. It’s done so well.

I liked this story. But I liked the others in the series better. I wanted a bit more interaction with the teammates to really make the series feel connected. Something was missing and I’m not sure what. Maybe it felt rushed or forced. It wasn’t bad. Just not my favorite.

I couldn't wait to read Wes's story and Cali did not disappoint! There was an instant attraction between Wes & Charlotte, I love how their relationship blossomed from the very start and their chemistry was off the chart. I especially loved how Charlotte was a writer and seeing how she developed her story throughout the book.
Looking forward to the next book in Orchid City x
