    Theo has found a way to deal with the death of his wife by retreating to a mountain cabin and coming down to Heartcraft Market occasionally to sell his woodcarvings. It tells you a lot about the man he is that when Onyx turns up at the cabin claiming to have rented it, Theo lets him stay. Onyx clearly needs some peace and quiet after the frantic life of a pop star and Theo and his cabin definitely provide that. It turns out that Onyx is exactly what Theo needs too. He finds it has been comforting to hide away and keep the same routine he established to deal with his grief but Onyx shakes him out of that routine and it helps him heal in ways he never imagined. These two opposites turn out to have the keys to each other's healing.

    Onyx and Theo are just what the other needs, Theo is more withdrawn and quiet, whereas Onyx is more exuberant and outgoing. They compliment each other in a really great way. The story flowed nicely, the pacing felt smooth, nothing felt rushed or forced. Considering Onyx and Theo ended up practically living together it's quite amazing that the story didn't feel rushed. It just felt natural for things to progress the way they did.

    I have been curious about Theo ever since he was mentioned in the previous books, I was wondered what his story was, and why he secluded himself from others. And I finally learned about the things I was curious about! He's been dealing with the loss of his wife and all the grief and emotions that come with that type of loss. Especially when he lost her the way he did.

    And then Onyx comes into his life and lights up all the dark spots that have been apart of his world since his wife's passing. Onyx is truly fabulous, they are so kind and they truly care about Theo's comfort and happiness. I absolutely adored both of the MC's, they are both so amazing and terrific in their own way. The way they got together was unique and just felt natural to the story. I liked when these two ventured out into town together, and then when they went to Heart Craft Market the first time. Those types of scenes are my favorite to read about, and they were done so well!

    My absolute favorite scene was the epilogue, that was just SO beautiful and sweet. I loved it! I'm looking forward to the next Heart Craft Market couple!

    What a great story with great characters. Theo is living a life of solitude in the mountains since his wife died. In swoops Onyx and brings life back to Theo’s life while Theo brings comfort and acceptance to Onyx’s life. I loved this book and I love this world. It may be my favorite one in this series. Of course I loved seeing some characters from previous books too.

    Wood and Wonders by Duckie Mack is the 5th book in her Heartcraft Market series. It is the story of a man consumed by grief at the death of his wife and the man who brings him back to life. Theodore Wilkins has lived in a cabin in the mountains near Grove Hills since the death of his wife 5 years ago. He was a carpenter and fled L.A. after it happened because he was introverted and struggled being around a lot of people and found some comfort living alone where no one bothered him. He started whittling and this grew into a business carving wood that he took to the Heartcraft Market in town to sell. Onyx is a pop star whose popularity had grown in the 14 years he had been in the business. He just finished a 20 city tour and was looking for a place to unplug, unwind, and work on his music. He found a cabin in the mountains that looked perfect but when he arrived he found out it belonged to Theo. Theo was flummoxed by the flamboyant man but also intrigued and invited him to stay the weekend while he looked for another cabin to rent. Unfortunately there wasn’t any because it was the height of vacation season. By this time they had spent a lot of time together and Theo was comfortable with him and Onyx had built up some trust in Theo so he asked him to stay for the rest of the 30 days. During this time they established a rhythm where Theo would work on his carvings in the barn and Onyx would work on their music in the cabin which worked for them. They ate the evening meal together and occasionally went to town. Fairly quickly Onyx invited Theo to sleep in the one bed in the cabin which they did platonically at first but then their relationship built into shared kisses and then more. Theo’s walls were breaking down as Onyx asked him questions about his life and Myra, his wife, and what happened to her. He found himself sharing things he had never told anyone before. Onyx found Theo adorable and was willing to do more with him, especially when Theo told him to push him, and before too long he knew he was falling in love with him. Theo had opened the door to the room where he kept his wife’s things and let Onyx use it to store his many clothes and things he bought. He was feeling the connection to them and it felt good to be needed and to laugh and smile again. He wanted and needed Onyx in his life and was entranced by their mix of masculine and feminine. He, too, was falling hard for them but it was hard for him to express his feelings. As time was running out they had a hot love scene where Onyx declared his love and even though Theo couldn’t say the words Onyx knew he felt them. When it was time for Onyx to leave Theo was able to say, “I love you,” and they decided that they were going to be together, even though Theo couldn’t travel with them on their tours, but Onyx came back to him at the end of each one and after two years Theo was able to make Onyx his forever in an epic scene. I really enjoyed this slow burn story. Theo was so broken by the death of his wife and couldn’t seem to break free of his grief. His inability to be around people didn’t help either. Onyx was a breath of fresh air and a bright light in his life and was able to give him what he needed to let go of the grief and live again. As they continued to get to know each other their relationship grew. Theo would do anything for Onyx and Onyx loved teasing him and giving him what he needed too. The townspeople at the market and Theo’s brother, Jude, also played a part in bringing them together and the ending gives a lot of satisfaction in knowing they were going to be together, even if tours kept them apart for short amounts of time. I highly recommend this book, especially if you like opposites attract stories about an introverted man who lives a solitary life until a flamboyant person invades it and helps him break free to find love and live in the sunlight.

    I loved Onyx and Theo!!

    A dynamic story full of so much love, emotions and growth. So much respect, unwavering "rightness" and longing. It's just so good.

    This is a fast paced, low angst story with healing, hope and finding love again.

    I enjoyed the unconventional meet-cute And Duckie's writing is witty and heartfelt throughout. It will pull on your heartstrings, light you up and give you hope.

    This is a wonderful, uplifting story and Onyx's gender is fully respected and they thrive throughout but it's not the main focus or a gimmick. Onyx just happens to be non binary and Theo is attracted to Onyx. It's true, it's raw and it's beautiful. We need more stories like this in the world. It's truly beautiful and left me with hope and all the gooey feel good feelings I love from a true romance.
