- Reviewed in the United States on February 14, 2025Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis book offers a practical guide for individuals seeking to break free from the grip of workaholism and cultivate a more balanced and fulfilling life. It argues that while workaholism might present short-term rewards, its long-term consequences – burnout, diminished well-being, and a distorted sense of self-worth – far outweigh any perceived benefits. I completely identified with the distinction the author emphasized between work and self-worth, highlighting the importance of developing an internal sense of value that is independent of professional achievements. Each chapter brought challenge exercises to help work through activities to find a new way of life. And as a compulsive “Type A” I love activities and checklists!
The book delves into strategies for creating space and setting boundaries, essential components of a sustainable work-life balance. It encourages readers to reassess their priorities, simplify their lives, and learn to say "no" without guilt or fear. There was also discussion on communication, support, and scheduling which made this a holistic approach to overcoming workaholism, acknowledging the importance of building a strong network and implementing routines that promote productivity and well-being. I will definitely keep this book close by so I can refer to it as I find myself slipping back to old habits in the future.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 19, 2025Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis was a lovely short book focusing on how to decompress and get the best out of your time spent working.
I'm an overachiever. I work a lot, take on too much, burn out more often than not when you add family and social responsibilities along with PTSD and sleep disturbances. This was such a necessity that I read it slowly and took in every word. I created a plan, connected some dots, and am grateful to yhe author for putting this together.
I do plan on having a physical copy. I can already see all the places I will highlight and tab (and I'm not a tabber) just so I can go back and remind myself I'm okay! I can do this!
This is perfect for all those who need help figuring out how to schedule their day without overloading yourself. Thank you, Dr Kara, for giving so many ideas to those of us who are exhausted and need to figure out the best way to balance our work-life activities.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 19, 2025Format: KindleVerified PurchaseDr. Larson's book has helpful techniques for managing evening routines and sleep. Chapter 8, Morning Rituals, was where I realized that my brainwave was alpha when I first woke up. Chapter 7 also explains brain breaks and breathwork. The first few chapters made me understand and recognize why I may be a workaholic, and this book helps detox. I'm on the fence about retiring, worrying about the work, and who will carry out the duties, but this book is helping me with the decision to go on a new adventure.
