4.3 out of 5 stars 220 ratings

A scandalous marquess. A hidden passion. When Charlotte discovers the man behind the love poems, will she run—or risk her heart?

Andrew, the Marquess of Kentmore, has a secret. Despite his roguish reputation, he writes poetry about love and sends it anonymously to the London Chronicle. Believing that no one will ever know it is his work, Andrew throws himself into society, intending to marry no one but flirt with as many young ladies as he can.

Charlotte Hawick does not much like society. Quiet and retiring, she prefers to reading to dancing though her mother insists that she attends every single society occasion! The poetry from the London Chronicle catches her attention, however, and Charlotte begins to daydream about the writer of such beautiful words, wishing desperately that she could meet him.

When a sudden collision knocks them together, Charlotte finds herself bound to the very worst sort of gentleman. When a chance comes to free herself from him, will Charlotte take it? Or will certain truths hold her back and tie her to him forever?

Rose has read her way through countless romances over the years, “borrowing” them from her older sisters, and hiding them from her mother (Mom didn't like the sexy book covers!)

She has a special love for Regency romances and when she began writing, the Regency period was a natural place to start. The ton, the wealthy families, the Season, the dilemmas, and yes, the marriages, have always fascinated her. She loves a happy ever after! Now she is happy to bring this passion to her stories and share it with her readers.

On a personal note, Rose lives in North Carolina, is married, and has a terrier that barks too much. She enjoys taking him for walks to tire him out!

I never pass up a Rose Pearson book as I know it will have an excellent plot and a happy conclusion. The strictures of the Regency Era society set against human nature provide tension and drama with a guaranteed happy ending.

I loved these characters and how they interacted. It was fun to see how each character thought they felt and what they came to realize. Don't miss this book.

For all readers sakes, forget the word "mayhap" . It becomes disgusting and nauseating. There are so many ways to convey the same meaning even back in the Regency period. One author used that word 14 times in one chapter. You must be able to write better than that. If that word is overused, I reduce the stars even if story might deserve more.

A poetry column in the newspaper leads to a meeting that might lead to more. The rogue has no intentions for more and a young lady who does not socialize might have more. Love how the author comes up with stories.

Another sweet story by Rose Pearson, about a rogue, caught by his own lust, and falling for the sweet, innocent poetry loving, ingenue, without even a clue of his fall.

This is a beautiful story with wonderful characters who take the reader with them in this unexpected duo. Lord Andrew Kentmore and Charlotte Hawick are opposites, but when circumstances throw them together, their love slowly blossoms. Great read.
