Wrapped in Red: A University Friends-to-Lovers MM Romance (The Just Friends Series) Kindle Edition
At Christmas, anything seems possible.
University student Duri Jeong has been hopelessly in love with his friend Mac since they were freshman. Unfortunately, the handsome football quarterback is never without a girlfriend. Well, except for every year around Thanksgiving when, like clockwork, Mac breaks up with whatever girl he's dating and remains single through the New Year. Duri knows he's the wrong gender for Mac, but that doesn't stop his heart from dreaming, especially around the holidays. However, even after a wonderful summer spent with Mac at his home in Nags Head, Duri can't ignore the girlfriend issue. And he's only got one Christmas left to make Mac see him as more than a friend.
Every November, Mac Murdock breaks up with his girlfriend at the time to avoid the romance and pressure of the holidays. He finds the festivities are more fun spent with his group of friends, especially cute and affectionate Duri. At the end of junior year, when Mac finds out that Duri has nowhere to go for the summer, he brings him home with him; and, unexpectedly, their friendship solidifies into something Mac has never had before--and doesn't fully understand. As fall drifts into winter and Duri begins spending time with other guys, Mac has to question the feelings of jealousy stirring within him. Thinking it might clear up his confusion, Mac asks Duri to go with him to the Christmas party. He isn't prepared for the version of his shy little friend the night presents him with.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 15, 2024I so enjoyed this book. The way you portrayed them, I was able to picture them so perfectly. And I love a great Christmas ending.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 7, 2022This is a good slow burn friends to lovers story. It did get a bit frustrating at points with Mac being as clueless as he was but it did have a nice HEA.
I received an ARC and this is my unbiased opinion
- Reviewed in the United States on December 9, 2022Duri and Mac have been friends since Freshman year of college. Duri has been secretly in love with Mac, but Mac is straight and is always with one girlfriend after the next, so Duri is hopeless that he will ever been seen in that way, but he still dreams of Mac finally seeing him in that special way. As it happens, Mac is single and spends the holiday with friends to avoid entanglements, but he starts to have these feelings that he cannot explain, especially when he gets jealous of other people hanging out with Duri. So, when Mac invites Duri to a Christmas party, it doesn't take long for Mac to figure things out and Duri can finally have the love of the man he has had his heart set on for years.
I really liked this book. It was well-written and the MC's were interesting to get to know. This was a straight-to-gay, friends-to-lover romance and I really love those types of books, so this was right up my alley. I just wished that Mac would have wised up sooner. Other than that, it was an enjoyable read.
I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 6, 2022Friends to lovers is one of my favorite tropes (there’s just something about deepening/evolving feelings between people who already are about each other that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside, and pair that with a holiday romance backdrop and…so much yes). All this is just to say I loved the premise of this story, and there were definitely moments when I liked both Duri and Mac. They didn’t, however, always make it easy. We can talk about Mac’s level of obliviousness (epic) or Duri’s helplessness (what’s a word beyond epic? Because he’s about three levels past “damsel in distress” and firmly in “will not survive in the wild for more than two seconds” territory). There’s something heartbreaking but also a little frustrating about the way Duri has just quietly been in love with Mac forever and is resigned to watching him go through relationships without trying to 1) share his feelings or 2) move on, and Mac’s “relationships are too much work during the holidays” thing is…not his best look. Overall, however, I did want the best for these two: they’re young (college age) and deserve a chance for a happily ever after and also the chance to grow up a bit. *I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.*
- Reviewed in the United States on December 31, 2022This is the story of Duri and Mac. I love books by this author. This was a beautifully written slow burn love story with great characters, even though I wanted to shake Mac a few times. Loved the friends to lovers trope. Definitely recommended.
I received this book as an Arc and I am happily reviewing it voluntarily.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 7, 2022Wrapped in Red was a fun journey through the college years of Duri and Mac, two close frat brothers. Duri has had a long-time crush on one of his best friends Mac, but as far as he knows, Mac is straight. Mac loves Duri and is very protective of him, but it takes him a few years and some helping friends to make him realize that his feelings are much more than pure friendship. I really enjoyed these two characters and the journey that the author takes us on while they work out their own love story. At times your heart just cried for Duri and his unrequited love and what he went through but it was all worth it in the end for the HEA that they both deserve. Mac at times presents as a loveable and clueless and you just wanted to say “wake up to what is in front of you”. This was a great read that I truly enjoyed. I always look forward to the way Rebecca James tells a wonderful love story.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 29, 2022A very bitter sweet story, partly because of how long Duri had a crush on Mac and partly because they had a good friendship. Even in all the heartache, there was very strong friendships, very accepting of the affection that Duri were giving out. Because clearly he needed it since he didn't get it anywhere else.
What irked me the most is how infantile Duri is made out to be. He is scared of everything, very small and need constant reassurance, as well as aid with most things. Very much damsel in distress almost to the extreme.
Apparently he was so attractive, few could keep their eyes off him.
Mac was a serial dater who was an idiot for not understanding his own jealousy and couldn't see how that made his friends life worse. Which again made him a bad friend to others at times.
I did want them together, but at the same time I kinda wanted Duri to find that Vlad was his match in the end.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 28, 2022I had to sit with this book after I read it because it took me a while to process their relationship and everything happened that got them to the end result. Duri is the sweetest man and he's friends with an unlikely man, the popular ladies man, Mac. Every holiday season, Mac breaks up with his latest girlfriend and although Duri knows he doesn't stand a chance, his heart is invested in Mac and he gets disappointed. Mac is slow to realize who he should be with and along the way, he hurts Duri and it's a bit inexcusable. But until he admitted his feelings for Duri, it was painful for the sweet man who only wanted to be loved.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet Story.
Ok everyone, this is a story to read! If you love mm romance and especially college romance, and even more especially angsty, wishing for him romance, then this is the book for you!! Duri is an absolute little sweetheart, pining for his best friend, straight best friend that is, Mac. I admit that I found it a tiny, wee bit slow at first but it didn't last long at all, it soon ramped up into an utterly gorgeous heart-melting tale. My only regret is that at the end the author gives us a link to a short bonus scene of these two, but no matter how hard I tried the link wouldn't work, so I'm pouting right now.
