The Beggar's Wrath (Unbroken Bond Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 36 ratings

Some sins just can't be forgiven.

The plan worked, its execution flawless. Tip and Marshalla are hunted no longer. With the living essence of the chronodragon Anieszirel safe within Tip, the pair look to a brighter future within the Shimmering Tower, eager to put the nightmares behind them at last.

There are those for whom Tip and Marshalla's misdeeds can never be forgiven, however, let alone forgotten, and from the shadows, these vengeful few weave a web that will see the pair dead and their allies broken.

Oblivious to the threat gathering around them, the pair look to a new life free of their former burdens, yet ignorant of the noose tightening about their necks.

With the element of surprise theirs, their enemies have the upper hand. The end seems all but certain for the pair. But Tip and Marshalla have Anieszriel, and that is one dragon you do not cross.

The Beggar's Wrath is the second book in J.B. Drake's high fantasy series, Unbroken Bond. If you're after memorable characters, lots of intrigue, and a healthy dose of magic, look no further than this second instalment in a captivating fantasy series.

J.B. (or James) is a London-based author who's been writing since his teens. Much of that time was spent writing for the simple joy of it. He did toy with the thought of publication for quite some time however, but it wasn't until 2018 when he finally took the plunge with The Beggar Prince.

J.B.'s main passion is fantasy, specifically high and epic fantasy, the more epic the better, and is a genre he just can't seem to get enough of.

J.B.'s lived much of his adult life in London, and is probably going to live the rest of it there. When he's not at work fixing client issues, he's at home either working on one of his stories, or logged into some MMO whiling away the time on yet another hare-brained plot.

I love this story, but sadly like many self published books on Amazon there is an obvious lack of professional editing or even simple editing. There are spelling mistakes a plenty, some of which are simple words. The wording of sentences and grammar is not something I typically notice too much of, but in many place they are like giant red flags. The order of some sentences make it sound like Yoda wrote it. Sometime the same word is repeated 3 times in a row. These mistakes aren't severe, but there are at least several in most chapters. They seem worst in the more fast paced chapters. Overall the story is good enough for me to ignore these mistakes with a mild passing annoyance. Unfortunately for writers like this there are a lot of people who will stop reading their future work or even stop reading in the middle of a book becausethey just can't get past poor reading flow. It would be cool if writers could opt to let certain Kindle readers have the option to make notes on edits and submit that to the writer. Anyway, great story and I hope the writing gets a good polish.

Marsha and Tip's world gets more complicated. Things change a lot for Tip and knowing what he has done and who he really is was surprising and intense. Thalas, Thane, Eldred and Neremi plan on going out and hurting Marsha and Tip but things don't go according to plans. Marsha wants to keep protecting Tip but at what cost. A great second book in the series. Will hold you attention till the end.

Ani is still inside Tip with none the wiser save a very few. Tip and Marshalla's lives are better now that they live at the tower. Tip is being trained for the birthing and Marsha is working in the pens. Still there are those wanting to end them and with the help of Thalas and his friends they work towards that goal in the most underhanded of ways. Ani has a lot of work ahead of her to save these two. I can hardly wait to see what will happen in the next book in the series.

A great follow-up to book one, The Beggar Prince. I found myself reading it all in one go.

I am reviewing this book after receiving a free copy. I really enjoyed this book! I did read Book 1 first and of course liked it so much I needed to continue. I think there could have been a little more background in the beginning, because it took a bit to figure out what was happening, but I do love the books! I totally recommend this book (and series) to magic lovers.

I really am enjoying this series. I read books 1 and 2 in a weekend! It has a little bit of everything: intrigue, magic, tragic young hero, action and adventure. Tip is a lovable character even with the dark mystery surrounding him. Marshalla is a strong female character. I can't wait to read the prequal.
