OCTAVIA: The Burns Series Book 4 - a stand-alone novel Kindle Edition
Voyage to the dark side.
Aboard an enormous alien warship bound for Hyacinth (Earth), all is not well with Second Lieutenant Sinistra.
Horrifying visions plague her mind, and, unlike the rest of the crew, she can’t adapt to life in the awkward ‘Hyacinth-creature’ form, which her mission orders demand.
As a result, she is rejected by her touchy fellow officers, and a nervous breakdown seems imminent, jeopardising the mission objective: to invade Hyacinth and subjugate the Hyacinth creatures.
When a rogue space object crosses the ship’s path, Lieutenant Sinistra is sent to investigate.
What she discovers changes the direction of her life forever, and casts her on a path of dark transformation, from a diligent navy officer to the obsessive, dangerous alien dictator, Octavia.
And the shockwaves are felt across the galaxy.
'OCTAVIA' is a tension-filled shipboard intrigue with fascinating characters, thrilling action, the drama of a shipboard mutiny and the capricious meddling of ancient cosmic gods.
Whether you're new to The Burns Series or a veteran, brace yourself for an unputdownable science fiction adventure you will remember long after the final page is turned.
You’ve never read a story like it.

About the author

M.M. Holt is a mysterious figure who lives partly in the real world, but more often in his imagination.
He writes science fiction, horror and adventure novels, often involving a Navy lieutenant named Alex Burns who struggles to keep his sanity in a repressive future dystopia. This same Alex Burns also fights alien invaders. Sometimes Burns’s great seafaring ancestors also appear in the books. They are also named Alex Burns, and in their own times, they also battled invaders from beyond the stars. Battling aliens and dystopian regimes is like a family tradition.
M.M. Holt is relentless traveler. He can usually be found writing in cafes by the sea, or in a bar on the edge of a crowded street, usually in far flung cities. If you see him, he’ll be the handsome yet enigmatic stranger pounding the keyboard of his laptop, pausing only to sip black coffee and glance warily over his shoulder. He knows the Accord Of Nations is always one step behind.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 5, 2024I would have given it 5 Stars except: This should have been Book 1 or at least described as a Prequal to the other books. There is no reference to Commander Alex Burns which tells one it is not in order.. That said, it is well written. The action is good and relative fast paced.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 7, 2024Octavia is the best of MM Holt’s four books in the series in my opinion. It’s not only a page turner full of action, MM Holt beautifully develops the character of Sinistra as she transforms to the magnificent Octavia. In the first 3 books, she seemed an evil manipulative creature/beauty with only destruction and dominance as her motive. However, in book 4 , Octavia , MM Holt takes us through her past, and the reader begins to understand the makings of this character, not unlike other Villains, think the Joker. Bravo MM Holt, keep them coming, and bring us back the other amazing character Alex Burns . Superb.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 10, 2024The civilization depicted is not very attractive. Essentially a top heavy royal type civilization, and destined to fail because of how it's organized. Our heroine is followed through her trials and tribulations, and she is often not very likable. But I was almost compelled to keep reading to see how it all played out.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 19, 2024Thank you for this excellent book. I really enjoyed it, especially after reading the first three books in the Burns Series. It was good to see where Octavia came from and how she became who she is. Looking forward the the next installment, if you're planning one.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 11, 2025I am supposed to care what is going on during a mutiny and ship failures with creatures goin crazy that are trying to get to earth so they can enslave humanity? There are no heros in this book. Everyone is evil and bad. Although fairly well written this book is stupid in its premise. I could not garner any sympathy for anyone in the book. I kept hoping the incompetent engineer would manage to destroy the ship. The silly nod to homosexuality was just plain stupid and insulting.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 9, 2024Answers so many questions about Octavia,
How she became the creature she is & her motivations.
Highly recommended, i dare anyone to try putting it down.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Accord of Nations is watching!
Once again an another amazing book written by M M Holt having read "Fifty Degrees South", "Protocol" and "Shale".
There is a loose connection between all the books, although quite different from each other. One doesn't have to read one before the other. As a fan of this author I did follow each book as it was published. If you haven't read "Fifty Degrees South" I recommend you do. Read the blurb on the back of "Octavia" to see how she becomes a dictator. An unbelievable dual between her and Flavia. Human nature is subtly presented in science fiction in such a way that it is believable. The author takes one with him to accept the unbelievable. It is certainly easy to read. However don't leave it too long between reads. I'm impressed with the author's imagination to write how he does. I also think he is aware of the world politics; especially this century. So many unbelievable dictators causing havoc. I'm eagerly awaiting his next book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Deeply imaginative Sci Fi drama
Holt has an uncanny ability to adopt viewpoints one would find hard to imagine. Becoming enthralled in an alien race with completely foreign mental and physical attributes to those we are familiar with here on earth, makes for page-turning unstoppable reading. The Burns series is becoming a saga set to run for a long stretch. I would love to see it developed into a major TV series. Hats off to MM Holt.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant
I really couldn't put this down. Mr Holt is an amazing author. I think this would make an excellent mini series. So clever,
I actually felt sorry for Octavia.
