Christmas by Design: A Holiday Novella Kindle Edition

4.1 out of 5 stars 438 ratings

They don’t have a blueprint for love, but can they build a foundation together this Christmas?

Interior designer Beckett Camdon is decidedly not full of Christmas cheer. His idea of a perfect holiday is sitting by his sleek, gas fireplace with a brandy, a good book, and his cat. But when his boss asks him to pair up with Gemma, the resident ray of light and lover of all things Christmas, he has his work cut out for him.

Gemma Woodard is a project manager for flipping houses, and she’s damn good at it. Not that any of the men she works with notice. Her abilities are overshadowed by the fact that she’s a woman—and a single mom to two-year-old Nova. She won’t let that get her down, though. She’s determined to take on this flip, even if it means she has to do it with grouchy Beckett Camdon.

As they work together more and more, an undeniable attraction grows. And when they find themselves snowed in at the house they’re supposed to be flipping, that spark gets harder to ignore.

Will Beckett and Gemma’s desire melt away after just one night, or will it snowball into something more? One thing’s for sure—this Christmas, they might find themselves wrapped up in more than just holiday decorations.

If you love grumpy/sunshine, adversaries to lovers, workplace romances where they get snowed in and swear it's "just for one night," you'll love this fun, quick burst of Christmas happiness this holiday season.

Cozy and Spicy Holiday Romance Novella
Star Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ / 5 Spice Rating: 🌶️🌶️ / 5 If you've been searching for a cozy and spicy holiday romance novella, look no further than Christmas by Design. Beckett is an interior designer, Gemma is a project manager for flipping houses, and they couldn't be any more different. Beckett is a grumpy 40-year-old cat dad who just wants to spend Christmas alone and unbothered, and Gemma is a 30-year-old single mom who's living with her parents and just wants to give her daughter the Christmas she deserves and buy a place of their own. When the two get put on a project together right before Christmas, they believe it'll be impossible to work together, but their personalities and pasts might just fit together perfectly. Their flirting and attraction grows, and when they get stranded by a snowstorm in the house they're flipping, Beckett and Gemma think it would be... irresponsible to NOT explore the spark between them, even if by the end of the snowstorm they'll let things go back to normal. This story is like a Hallmark holiday movie put into the pages of a book. Even the grumpiest Scrooge can't help but fall in love with Beckett and Gemma and their sweet love story. As for me, Beckett and Gemma might be my new favorite couple. This grumpy x sunshine pair is so cute and complements each other so well. As a single mom, Gemma wants to give the world to her daughter and will sacrifice her own happiness, but Beckett shows her that it's okay to ask for and accept help every now and again. And, instead of dismissing Gemma's anxiety, Beckett is right there beside her helping her through it. Since Beckett's mother was a single mom, he's able to connect to Gemma and her daughter in a way that Gemma hasn't had before. The two truly see each other, and the sparks between them shine brighter than any Christmas lights. Christmas by Design is cozy with a good amount of spice (three chapters, my friends 👀) and a great helping of mental health rep. I highly recommend you check this novella out during the holiday season.

This is a really sweet and quick holiday read. If you are just needing that quick hit of Christmas romance and spice then you definitely need this book.

The FMC is a single mom who just wants to take on a new design project. Some of what Gemma struggles with in this book I can relate to. While I'm not a single mom I know what it's like to want to be able to do the best for your kids. I like that she was relatable to the messy always running late moms out there.

Beckett is that just solitary older gentlemen that you know there is more too once you peel back the layers. He is a good guy with just a tough exterior.

This is a novella so it is a very fast romance. I think the author did a great job with this story in less than 130 pages.

If you’re worried about all Christmas books blending together, read this novella! It felt fresh, which created a great reading experience. There is character development, cozy scenery, and a bit of spice.

Gemma is a single mom trying to do it all and provide a magical Christmas for her daughter. When a design project that would help her fund Christmas, she can’t say no. Even if it means working with the ever grumpy Beckett. Beckett reluctantly agrees and the two must work together. Everything is on track until a snowstorm has other plans.

The characters are fun, there’s several real moments of depth as they figure out their relationship and Gemma talks about the struggle of being a single parent.

Now I want a full length book with the characters!

This is honestly the perfect holiday novella. Beckett and Gemma are SO SWEET! There is something about a grumpy but sweet cinnamon roll man who just falls so easily for the sunshine girl who loves Christmas! Their banter was so easy and fun. And not to mention all the cute little moments between Beckett and Nova! My heart was melting right along side Gemma’s!!

Gemma’s anxiety was written so well. And Beckett never made her feel less because of it. He asked questions and observed and was able to meet her where she was and help her the way she needed. It was SO sweet.

This is the first book I’ve read of Allie’s but it won’t be the last!! I’ve been wanting to read her books forever but so many books so little time 😭 but this is me officially committing to reading her books inn the new year!!

Once again Allie sleighed with this novella! (see what I did there). A very quick and cozy read perfect for sitting by the fireplace. It’s the perfect balance of naughty and nice! Gemma is a hard working and resilient project manager. She’s also a single mom who struggles with anxiety. Beckett is a designer who is a bit of a Grinch. The banter between these two was incredible. After a chance event leaves them snowed in, we get to see Gemma make Beckett’s heart grow two sizes that day.

This was a super cute, super quick holiday novella! I love Allies books, the MC’s are around my age, and so relatable.
Beckett is 40, an interior designer, and set in his ways. He has a very precise aesthetic, and doesn’t usually like working with clients when he flips houses. He likes doing what he wants, and selling. But Gemma, the annoying tornado of a woman in charge of project management, wants him to do one more job with her before the holidays. With a client.
Gemma is a single mom, 30, and dealing with way more crap than she ought to be dealing with. From sexism in the workplace, a deadbeat ex who left her and her daughter high and dry, and a lack of funds to turn their life around. She is desperate for this last minute job over the holidays. The commission will be amazing and at her up to move out of her parents house. She just has to convince the world’s grinchiest man to help her. She doesn’t need a man to save her, but he’s stepping up in a way she wasn’t expecting, and she isn’t sure how to take it.

This is such a cute little novella!! I love a good grumpy x sunshine, adversaries to lovers story, and this one includes a cameo by everyone’s fav barista and coffee shop ☕️ 💕 It’s a sweet, bite-sized, feel good story with more loveable characters (including a secret cinnamon roll pretending to be a grinch)🎄🎁📚

Project manager Gemma & designer Beckett are paired together on a project at the house flipping firm where they work. They are opposites in many ways, but also a perfect balance.
I loved their connection and banter!

Allie did such a fantastic job at creating depth with her characters in such a short novella! This one is only 128 pages, but it felt like a full story.

I adored Gemma, I found her super relatable as a fellow mom, and a bit of a hot mess 😅
I also deal with anxiety and appreciated the rep!

My slight hesitation in giving this 5 stars is in elements of the story, but not about the relationship with the main couple.
I would have loved to have seen more of what happened regarding the misogyny Gemma experiences in the workplace, and more of a followup with the project/home owner.

This really has got it all, enemies to lovers, snowed in, a very happy ever after, this ticks all the boxes for a perfect Christmas romance.

I loved Gemma's strength and vulnerability and the way that Beckett responded to every part of her personality. He cared for her, teased her and showed up for her.

Beckett is a very classy guy, I loved his gentle but firm nature and the way he checked in with her, not forcing his way into her life, letting her call the shots.

As a novella this works so well but I would love more!

This is absolutely adorable! The grumpy x sunshine represented here is perfection!

The designer of houses and decorations and being snowed in…. Add a kid in the mix and things get … wild. Will they be able to juggle it all?

Beckett- deep and broody boss who always spends Christmas alone with his cat and his brandy!

Gemma- hyper mom of a two year old just trying to make ends meet.

The Dash project and a snowstorm and a fireplace. Panic attack represented!!! Perfection.

I will be reading this every February 1 because it’s always an excellent time for a cozy Christmas romance!
