Zero Pucks (Punk as Puck Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 445 ratings

Sometimes what happens in Vegas shows up at your door two weeks later to tell you that he’s the guy you married while you were blackout drunk.

Tucker:

Waking up alone in a strange hotel room, missing my prosthetic legs, and no memory of what happened the night before is not how I wanted to spend my estranged twin’s bachelor party trip.

Yet there I was, legless and zero idea how I got there. Or who I spent the night with. Which is…not great.

Though I suppose that trauma lies somewhere between losing my legs in a car accident which killed my career in the NHL, and my brother running off with my fiancée.

So, in the grand scheme of things, not the worst weekend I’ve had.

But while I’m no longer a bitter, angry man, I’m also maybe—
kind of, sort of—not the most well-adjusted person on the planet. And that shows when an adorable, dimpled, wild-haired man shows up at my door to tell me that the hazy night in Vegas had a very specific ending:

At some point, after several chocolate cake shots and trauma dumping, Amedeo and I found Elvis and got married.

The easy thing to do would be to make sure the marriage isn’t valid. But when have I ever made anything in my life easy? Especially since the incentive is getting to keep this man in my orbit.

We might have had the weirdest beginning of any married couple, but now I’m feeling strangely determined to give us both the happily ever after we deserve.

Zero Pucks is the first book in a rom-com, strangers to lovers, MM romance sled hockey series. It features a ride or die hockey found family, snarky best friends, the Team Dad who refuses to approve of bad decisions, why sled hockey is way more terrifying than standing hockey, awkward first dates, steaming hot first kisses, and a Golden Retriever of an Alternate Captain determined to give them both the happiest of ever afters.

What a fun and sweet romance! Zero Pucks introduces us to two characters that couldn’t be more different, had a mystery meet cute that no one remembers (alcohol in Vegas), and they were exactly what the other needed to make life changes for the better. I loved how both men were imperfectly perfect and met each other exactly where they needed the other to be, taking their pasts and disabilities at face value and right in stride. Amadeo and Tucker were so easy to love right from the start. Deo was so very sweet. Tucker’s irreverent humor and strength made this such a fun read. It starts out with so much chaos - Tucker waking up with no legs and no idea where he was. From there, the story gets so sweet and ends on a wicked punch. I adored this strangers to lovers, not quite one night stand in Vegas, accidental marriage, humorous hockey romance from start to finish.

Zero Pucks is a story of love and acceptance, of oneself and another, that greatly uses humor to lighten a heartfelt story that touches on some harder themes. Because life sometimes knocks you down and derails your life plan. What is more real than that? I love how this overall positive thread of acceptance often runs through E.M. Lindsey’s stories and fundamentally connects her MCs. This story is fun and is packed with so many surprises. As intended, I absolutely adored both the MCs and their large found family. I also appreciate E’s attention to detail with how she represents different disabilities, utilizing sensitivity readers and not shying away from the less glorious details of everyday living. Her romances are fresh, heartfelt, and show that everyone deserves love and acceptance for who they are, just as they are. This will always keep me coming back for more and makes her one of my favorite authors. Zero Pucks was the start to what promises to be another excellent series, and I can’t wait for the rest.

This is absolutely a fluffy and steamy hockey romance, but one unlike anything I've seen before. Set as a low stakes, "woke up married" plot after a drunken night in Vegas, Amadeo follows Tucker across the country to help set the situation right, and also get away from his absolute d-bag of an ex boyfriend.

Tucker is a visually impaired double amputee who lost his NHL dreams to a stupid drunken car accident, and now plays and coaches sled and blind hockey at the amateur and semi-professional level. This is all set in a fictional universe (maybe in the very near future?!) where para-hockey teams have leagues all the way to the national professional level, and not just the Paralympics, and I am absolutely here for it. When Amadeo shows up on his doorstep, Tucker falls fast and hard and will do anything to protect him, and possibly keep him around longer.

This is a steamy insta-love story, so I did have to suspend disbelief a bit at how quickly things progressed, especially since the stakes for their relationship are never really established. However, I really enjoyed Tucker's life and team and the whole cast of characters in this book, even more so than the romance itself. Tucker's bffs and teammates are all absolute green flags, and the camaraderie between them (including teasing and call outs and not always getting along but the love is still there) is absolutely everything I love about hockey teams.

While I felt a bit less invested than I could be in this specific couple, I'm so thrilled that this is the start of a new series, and can't wait to see what Tucker's teammates have in store for their own love lives. I'm especially fascinated by whatever was happening between Brodie and the new coach 👀

( Thank you to E.M Lindsey and Gay Romance Reviews for the review copy! Thoughts are my own.)

I loved everything about this book. There wasn’t anything that annoyed me or that o thought was too cliched or that the author got wrong. The relationship between Tucker and his friends is the type of friendship for life that you wish you could have. All of their disabilities were treated in such a normal way and the author did a good job of showing their daily struggles with such normalcy. Like real life. When something happens, you just learn to deal with it. Some things may be a bit harder but it just becomes your new normal. I love that they give each other crap all the time - yet like brothers, they don’t let anyone else give them crap. They will stand with each other till the end.

The romance is sweet. And a little steamy. And the bonus chapter is totally worth getting your hands on. Looking forward to more books in this series. Oh, the bucket is good, too. Even though it’s mostly just practices that we get to experience in this book.

I'm a huge fan of EM Lindsey's writing and storytelling, and I love that they create new and different storylines and found families with each series even as they always center wonderfully messy, complex disabled characters. Zero Pucks is exactly that - featuring disabled and blind hockey players who have each others' backs and love one another despite and because of their rowdiness, dry humor, and empathy. Deo and Tuck are excellent together even as each start off knowing nearly nothing about one another and I so very much appreciate that Lindsey writes their rom-com to give one another a chance without any third-act breakup looming. I've already ordered the second book in the series and I am so excited to keep reading about these men!

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally a book about para ice hockey

Finally someone who dares to write a book about the badass guys who play para ice hockey.

It started a bit silly with missing, possibly stolen prostheses, but it soon came back on track. It was an absolute pleasure to read and I hope there will be more MCs who are para sports athletes.

I have mixed feelings about this book, it took me almost half the book to really start to enjoy it, but once I got there I couldn't put it down. The first half is slow and I had a hard time connecting with the main characters, mainly Tucker, I appreciated much more the second half, the development of the relationship between Tucker and Deo, the found family.
This book is introduced as a rom-com, but it's quite emotional, and touches many deep topics.

The laughs I had with this book are honestly beyond words. It truly felt like watching a classic rom-com on TV—the kind that makes you laugh out loud and forget everything else for a while. But this book is also so much more than that.

Tucker wakes up alone in a hotel room in Las Vegas, missing his prosthetic legs and with no memory of the night before. Definitely not how he imagined spending his estranged twin’s bachelor party. Yet there he is: legless, clueless about how he got there—or who he spent the night with. Not exactly ideal.
Tucker isn’t the bitter, angry man he once was, but he’s definitely not what you’d call emotionally well-adjusted either. And it shows when an adorable, dimpled, wild-haired guy shows up at his door to let him know that their hazy Vegas night ended in a very… specific way:
Apparently, after a few chocolate cake shots and some heavy trauma bonding, Tucker and Amedeo found an Elvis and got married.
Getting the marriage annulled would be the obvious choice. But Tucker’s never done things the easy way. And maybe, just this once, complicating things might lead to something surprisingly right: a happy ending.

This book is the least angsty, least problematic story you’ll come across—a breath of fresh air if you’re looking for something to lift you up from the weight of everyday life.
Everything felt so natural it almost seemed unreal—but sometimes, that’s exactly what you need.

I adored all the dynamics—not just between Tucker and Amedeo, but also with the team and the friend group. And let me just say: the found family trope here is the real deal. So real I felt like they were my own friends, and I would’ve loved to step into the book and join them for dinner.

Beyond the laughs, there were also touching moments—like seeing Deo struggle when Tuck started treating him seriously and made him feel wanted. That hit hard. No one should ever feel like they’re not worth loving. Watching Tuck care for a man who had never truly been loved before was pure joy.

I love this team, I love this family, and I can’t wait to read the next books. I already know this is going to be one of those series you never want to end.
