The Greatest Gift (The Memories Series Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.7 out of 5 stars 435 ratings

After five years, Alex Stern and Rafe Hazelton have what seems to be the perfect marriage. Alex is entering his last years of residency and Rafe’s veterinary business is busier than ever. For Rafe, all that is missing is a child, but Alex, afraid of ending up to be a man like his father, isn’t as sure. He doesn't want to make any mistakes.

When a new patient enters the hospital, Alex is drawn to the young, desperately ill single mother, who shares her fears for the future of her young son. Rafe worries about the toll on Alex becoming emotionally invested in a patient, yet he too can’t walk away once he meets the little boy, and together they vow to help in any way possible.

Families are not always born of blood— love is a gift no one can plan for. And sometimes from the darkest of tragedies, the brightest light will shine.

This is a 25k word novella in the Memories series.

I always knew Felice is good, but this book totally took that to a different level! I smiled, I cried (on the freaking subway, no less), I applauded (at the confrontation scene at the hospital). This story simply touched deep inside my heart. The interaction between Jude the sick mother and her boy Dylan had me crying on the subway shamelessly more than once! It was as if I was right there at the hospital with them, witnessing the final farewell! The warmth and compassion throughout the story were something that made this story outstanding. I wish more child/orphan would grow up with loving parents like Jude, Alex and Rafe, let alone the kind extended family. Confession: I woke up in the middle of the night thinking about the story and cried all over again. Felice, what are you doing to me?? :)
I would like to see a little more development of the demonized Dr. Harris, how he softened his attitude after being put in his place by a dying patient. And I would like a even more prominent role of the ever-loving Russo family. Dylan will always have that family in his life as he grows up.
This is one story I cannot recommend enough, whether you want to cry on the subway or not.

What can I say about this beautiful and heartfelt book?

Alex and Rafe are one of my favorite couples. I love them together. They bring out the best in each other and even when they disagree, you can still feel their love for one another. I adore Rafe and love how he quietly and steadfastly supports Alex. He always seems to know exactly what Alex needs, even when Alex doesn't know himself.

We meet Jude and her son, Dylan, in this book. And my heart broke for both of them. Jude was so strong. She faced so much in her young life yet faced each challenge head-on and did her best to make a good life for her son.

Dylan is the sweetest, most lovable little boy. He makes you smile. I loved watching him bond with Alex and Rafe and seeing them fall in love with him.

This book is emotional but it's also the perfect holiday story and one that I'll read over and over again.

Alex and Rafe are my favorite Felice Stevens' couple to date. Rafe's clear frustration combined with Alex's hidden fears made for a great dynamic. The way they worked through their issues with love and understanding- and a bit of help from Jude and Dylan - was well conveyed. Even the very sad moments in this story brim with love. It warmed my heart to see the guys expand their family to include Dylan. I wish them continued happiness ♥

A short story that is a follow up to the story of Alex and Rafe.

Set five years later we can meet Alex, the former nurse, now starting his specialization as an oncologist. His and Rafe's marriage is strong, but everything is not running smoothly. Rafe wants children, feeling he is at the right place in life, while Alex thinks it's too early yet. And besides, he is not sure he would be good father.
But sometimes things you do not expect, still happen. Chance meeting with a sick patient brings Dylan into their life. Proving to Alex that he is more than good enough.

I enjoyed this story as much as I did with the first one. Dylan is described as a great kid, although sometimes a bit more grown-up than his years. Dylan and his mother are lucky to meet Alex and his husband. There are too many children out there who have noone.

So glad to see Rafe and Alex again. I love these guys. Alex has left the nursing profession and returned to school to follow his original plan: become a doctor. Life is good for Rafe and Alex and I"m glad to see it. They disagree about one thing: starting their family. This disagreement won't split them apart, but it's causing friction and frustration.

Through circumstances, they end up caretaking a four year old. And of course you can see what's gonna happen. They fall for Dylan. Dylan falls for them. It's a family in the making.

Great addition to a series that I really enjoyed. Loved it.

Alex & Rafe are back. In this novella, it's five years later and Rafe wants to start a family but Alex is still in his residency and wants to hold back. Alex wants to give the world to Rafe but becoming a father scares him to death, fear that he will be like his father and he wouldn't put a child through that. But it seems fate has other plans for Alex and Rafe. A single mother, dying from cancer and her 4 year old boy turn their world upside down.
Loved this novella about two of our favorites characters. You will need tissues for this one but it was so worth it.

Was gifted this by the author for a honest review

I've not read a book by Felice Stevens that I did not love. She writes beautiful stories that warm the heart. The Greatest Gift was no exception. Rafe and Alex are so sweet together, even when they are having a disagreement. Alex is feeling a little overwhelmed by the long hours and emotional challenges of his oncology residency. Rafe is wanting to expand their family, despite Alex's objections that the time is wrong. Their lives change when a patient is admitted to the oncology unit where Alex is a resident. As always it was great to catch up with Josh, Micah, the twins, the grandmas and Lucky. Love this story so much and highly recommend it.

A sweet, emotional short about how husbands: Vet Dr. Rafe & Oncologist Dr. Alex expand their family. There are no surprises, but there could be eye leakage.
Although, the initial setup of the story did give me pause. I thought how compliant Jude was in handing her child to for all tense & purposes are strangers, though a Doctor stranger. And the fact that there was no discussion of Alex as part of a gay couple, seemed strange or a missing piece. I’m speaking strictly from a mother’s point of view.
That said, it’s still a cute read.

I nice continuation of the story between Alex and Rafe. While the book was short, it was a nostalgic look at a great couple introduced by this author in an earlier book. Well worth the read.

This story is a continuation of Alex and Rafe's story. Jude is a patient of Alex's and is dying but she has a young son Dylan. Both men offer to help look after Dylan for her and both men fall in love with the little boy. Can Alex get over his fear of being just like his father and can Rafe convince Alex that he would make a great dad. Recommended
